Due to the relatively high boost that the GT2 runs in stock trim, and also due to the fact that it uses the same intercoolers as the 997TT, it was not a big surprise to us that they quickly became the weak link when modifying.
As with all our intercoolers, a cast end tank was designed in house using sophisticated CAD (Computer Aided Design) and CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) software. Once the end tanks were cast by the foundry, they were then machined on our CNC mill, welded to specially designed cores, and then power tested and refined on our chassis dynamometer.
Compared to stock, our cores are 37% larger (422 cubic inches vs 308 cubic inches). In contrast to the stock cores, ours are a high flow bar and plate style and are built to our charge row and fin count specs. These specifications resulted in improved intake temperatures by a massive 55F and improved drop pressure resistance through the core by 1 psi. Considering that extremely little trimming is involved to fit such effective units to the car, this is a huge engineering feat.

In addition to the superior core and end tank design, our kit also features 6-ply silicone hoses with gentle curves to prevent bursting under pressure. They are attached to the intake and turbos by stainless steel high force t-bolt clamps, and a molded lip is integrated where the hoses meet the turbos to imitate the factory locking mechanism. Further, our hoses use a Nomex braiding for superior strength, instead of more common polyester. The very best materials and industry leading engineering separate this kit from all others on the market.

Below: Comparing all AWE parts individually on G.I.A.C. software. Our headers added 9whp/12wtq vs G.I.A.C. + muffler (10 crank hp/ 13 crank tq) Our headers and intercoolers added 29whp/22wtq vs G.I.A.C. + muffler (32 crank hp/ 24 crank tq)
Data was collected on our Mustang MD-AWD-500-SE AWD dynamometerand on the street, using dual Omega DPi temperature meters outputting to the dyno's integrated data acquisition, and via a portable lab grade datalogger. Several runs were made recording temperatures and pressures before and after the stock and AWE Tuning intercooler assemblies and then averaged, with graphs of the changes shown below. All tests were done on a 2008 Porsche GT2. 93 octane fuel was used for all tests.
Below: Temperature drop is the measurement of how much heat the intercooler is able to remove from the intake air. The higher the temperature drop, the denser the air charge, resulting in more power and less tendency for detonation in the cylinders. The first graph shows the behavior of the stock intercoolers. The second graph shows the behavior of the AWE Tuning intercoolers. Our design was able to hold intake air temperatures to a maximum of just 13F higher than the start of the run vs a 32F climb with the stock intercoolers.

If you remove, we can not approve. If a product issue is discovered after installation, do not remove the product before receiving confirmation of a return approval from the original place of purchase. On-car information can often lead to diagnosis and action plans; AWE requires a chance to address in this manner. Post-install products removed prior to return authorization will be denied any warranty claim.
Any alterations or attempts to fix will void the warranty. This includes welding, bending, or any ad-hoc methods that alter the product in any way.

Manufacturer defect is defined as any characteristic of the product which hinders its usability for the purpose for which it was designed and manufactured. The warranty against manufacturer defects doesn’t cover any cosmetic changes, or normal use wear and tear. All warranties cease at a product’s discontinuance. In the event of a return, a product must be returned with no signs of abuse, incorrect installation, forced installation, motorsports usage, or product altering whatsoever. Any trace of the aforementioned will result in warranty denial.
AWE's One Year Tip Finish Warranty covers defects on AWE tips for a period of one year from purchase date. Exclusions to the AWE One Year Tip Finish Warranty: (1) Pinhole sized pitting on the inside of tips, which is considered normal wear and tear, and (2) Blemishes or marring of appearance due to weather, road hazards, lack of maintenance (defined in next sentence) or extremes of heat or cold. Thorough periodic cleaning of AWE tips is required as general maintenance, and must be done prior to submitting a warranty claim on tips, as returned tips found to have been dirty (and not defective) will have forfeited any core charges.
