Then in 1963, after Mickey Thompson became the fastest man on record by traveling at 406.6 miles per hour three years earlier, the company designed the groundbreaking tires for the Indy 500, three times the width and with a lower profile affording more stability and the rest is history. Then Mickey and Gene MCMANNIS, a true technical genius, designed and built bias-belted off road racing tires, the precursor to today’s off-road tires.
